Focus Off is the fifteenth episode overall of Tales of Dawn and the third episode of Season 3. In this episode, Dawn tries to learn how to fight to defend against Sariel in the future, but the troubles of discovering her mother siding with him is affecting her abilities.
Dawn met up with Savantia in the palace training room, having been called here. When she asked what was going on, Savantia explained that due to recent events, she wanted Dawn to learn how to defend herself in case Sariel attacked her. She mentioned that they could look into Dawn's abilities to see where she was strongest and where she needed to improve. The redhead, having been through going some stress, was not sure if she was up to it right now but decided to give it a try.
However, despite being able to pull basic moves, she was unable to use her powers for stronger moves as her focus was disoriented from her stress. She kept pushing herself, trying to accomplish the moves, but ended up backfiring as random bolts of her powers darted everywhere, Savantia blocking any that came her way. A frustrated Dawn continued trying despite the queen's advice not to, the day rolling by with little progress made. Sariel, spying on her the entire time, decided to test her out for fun.
That evening, an unsuccessful Dawn headed for bed before spotting Sariel outside, waving at her. Pursuing him, she found him standing on a rooftop, wanting to challenge her. His taunts provoked her, the two engaging in a brawl. However, Sariel mentioned mid-fight that the night made him strong, giving him an advantage against her. In the end, Dawn would have ended up injured if Esa had not stepped in, ordering Sariel to leave her daughter be.
As he left, Dawn asked why Esa would side with him. She told her that she wanted to help him so he could help her, just wanting to make things right, saying that they were alike. Dawn explained that if she was like him, then there was no way that she would have cared for the twins when they were kidnapped. She begged her mother to understand that she had to move on, to which Esa sadly disagreed. However, she confessed that she could never bring herself to hurt Savantia's children and kept Sariel from doing so. She then left, leaving a surprised Dawn on the rooftop.
The next morning, Dawn, having kept her encounter last night a secret, tried the strong moves, being able to pull them off. When a shocked Savantia asked her how she was able to do it, Dawn simply replied that she just needed some time to think.
